Recently bought a Supermicro H11SSL and was saddened when a BIOS update caused it to fail to post.

It's got two variants - 1.01, which is Naples only, and 2, which supports Naples and Rome. The major difference between the two is the size of the SPI flash: v2 is 32MB while v1.01 is 16MB.

It turns out that v2 just has two copies of the data - if you take the second 16MB of v2 and flash them onto a v1.01 motherboard, it'l happily support a Rome CPU.
